Recyclates

Using recyclates - conserving resources

Recyclates are products that result from the recycling process. They are recycled plastics made from PE (polyethylene), PP (polypropylene) or PET (polyethylene terephthalate) or from plastic waste. This helps to saves resources and protect the environment, as the reuse reduces the amount of raw materials used and at the same time reduces energy consumption. From an environmental point of view, the use of recyclates is therefore desirable.

The recycling process here is simple:
the consumers separate and dispose of their plastic waste correctly. This is then sorted and crushed into granulate.
The granulate is then melted down and can fulfil a new purpose as a secondary raw material (e.g. as a PET bottle for mineral water).

To date, only around 46.6 per cent of plastics are recycled. One of the main reasons for this is that a great deal of technical effort is required to extract recycled plastic from the waste in the recycling bin. In addition, packaging waste from households in particular is frequently contaminated and therefore needs to be sorted, cleaned, shredded and processed. Another problem is that this waste rarely consists of mono-fraction material. It combines several types of plastic, sometimes even completely different materials such as aluminium.
